HairClone begins clinical testing!

By March 3, 2026No Comments

HairClone is excited to announce that after years of work, clinical testing is underway in Guatemala! Over the last year, HairClone has built, furnished, and staffed a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manufacturing facility co-located in a private hospital based in Guatemala City.

The move to Central America comes as part of a collaboration with the Schambach Hair Clinic, led by Dr Marie Schambach. Following a visit to the facility in late 2024, HairClone CEO, Paul Kemp, was impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities. Local equity investment allowed HairClone to secure a lab space just a few floors below the Schambach clinic.

HairClone’s lab space has undergone major reconstruction and been transformed into a fully operational Cell Manufacturing Facility. Technology to grow the cells under GMP conditions was transferred from HairClone’s research facility in the UK to the lab in Guatemala and the system has been validated.

Guatemala benefits from regulating autologous cell therapies the same as transplants, due to all cellular material originating from the patient being treated. This will allow cells to be grown in the Manufacturing Facility and injected back into patients at the Schambach Hair Clinic.

The first set of volunteers has been selected and are set to receive dermal papilla cell injections in the coming weeks. HairClone will be monitoring the efficacy of treatment outcomes in terms of visual improvements, quantifying growth changes alongside assessing mechanisms of action down to the cellular level. This science-led approach to understanding treatment outcomes will inform treatment practice in order to gain optimal results.

This is an exciting step forward for HairClone, who will be working closely with their Clinical Network to make treatments available as quickly as possible. The news was shared recently on the Hair Loss Cure 2020 blog; a blog that follows the latest news in hair loss research and developments.
